Getting Started

Why another place to read or talk about sailing? That seems a logical question, the answer at least to me, is there are many other sources available but most seem geared towards the higher end, Americas Cup, Around the World, and other Grand Prix type events. The bottom line is none of these media outlets gives a crap about Pig Pen and friends. So here we are, a little bit of technology, some boredom on your part and some pent up creativity (and not much of that)from us....

I had thought of doing this before, but yesterday, I was reading sail magazine's coverage on the 2007 Americas Cup. I enjoyed it, in fact I was really studying ithe very detailed coverage especially the Anatomy of an ACC boat. I was reviewing the detailed illustration of all the boat systems and hardware when I thought about the "stuff" on my one-design boat; a Flying Scot. Let's see; main, jib and spinnaker halyard and sheets, topping lift, a bungee for the downhaul, a pole guy, an outhaul and a vang. Thats about it. If you sail an Opti or Sunfish your list of "stuff" will be much shorter than mine. Oh yeah, the Americas Cup teams discard the jibs after 25 tacks! My fleet racing sails could be 25 years old, at least they appear 25 years old, we play a different game, for sure.

What about the weekend warrior types, husband/wife teams, a dad and his kid. The sailors who seem stuck in the middle of the pack, seemingly not improving. How about the mid or back of the pack guy who seems to have the most fun of anyone. Of course we can't forget about the ones that just go for the parties or to have some beers with the buddies. Maybe this is the place for all the rest of us. What do YOU think? You are the one who will help make it interesting.

We are going to use this site to talk about our sailing on our Flying Scot (PIG PEN) and some of the people we sail with and against. Its not the Americas Cup by any means but we have a ton of fun with it and that's what is really important.

If you choose to post a comment and I hope you will, just keep it clean and free of mean spirited stuff and we are good. Also I should mention that anyone can enter a comment, you don't need an account or password, etc. There will be a delay in showing your comment to be sure it is not objectionable. Another reason to comment, it won't come back to haunt you or anything since almost no one will read it!
