Lake Eustis 2012

We head for Lake Eustis midday Friday with a bit of gloomy weather and an occasional light rain shower. The weekend forecast is reasonable though, high 70's, light wind Saturday but a little heavy Sunday due to a front passing to the North. On the way we see this custom rig;

He was traveling slow, like 55mph or so, so I grabbed the camera for a couple shots

Dude does not believe in subtle exhaust...

The Rv park, uh, I mean sailing club fills up early Friday afternoon

Soon the conversation turns to the poisonous snakes hanging out on the club dock. You don't see that at many regattas, turns out they are not poisonous. They are commonly referred to as Brown Water Snakes, makes sense to me. I googled them and confirmed that they are harmless though often mistaken for a cottonmouth.

There were a couple Gators spotted but I, inexplicably, was sans camera.

Saturday morning is a little dreary at first with some fog/overcast but that burned off to leave us with a really nice day except w/o wind.

A shoreside postponement lasted till 2:30 ish when the breeze filled in and we got underway. We got a race in by about 4 pm and then ... headed back to shore! WTF! We then hung out with cocktails and watched a perfect 8 to 10 knot breeze blow till sunset. Just sayin.

The forecast Sunday seemed right on target early with a 15 knot breeze blowing as the boats left the dock. Figuring it would build quite a few of us packed it in. Two races were sailed with John/John winning both and Paul Abdullah getting two seconds. The two seconds were good for a narrow one point victory over JJ and the FLorida District Championship!! Nice job Paul!!
